Cataract and vision
Cataract and vision
A cataract is comparable to an increasing clouding or veil, continuously covering the entire field of vision. A common indication for the lens opacity is an increased responsiveness to glare or a decreased contrast vision (meaning that driving a car at dusk or during the night becomes increasingly difficult).
Further indications can be:
- Blurry sight
- Diminished vision, especially in the dark
- Amplification of an existent „shortsightedness“
- Failing accommodation abilityÂ
In the extreme case it can lead to blindness. The decrease of visual acuity is usually perceived by the patient as the most drastic impairment of sight.
