After attending medical school at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen and completing his doctorate at the Institute of Physiology, Professor Jacobi addressed himself to the fundamental research on the field of retinal diseases and diseases of the optic nerve at the University of Tübingen.

His residency in ophthalmology took place at the Eye Clinic of the University of Cologne. Already at the age of 33, Prof. Dr. Jacobi is granted the absolute teaching and research permission at the University of Cologne, a little later he is nominated as an outstanding Professor.

For a better medical attendance of the patients, Prof. Dr. Philipp Jacobi founds the operative ophthalmological clinic “VENI VIDI” in Cologne together with Dr. Angela Zipf-Pohl in 2005. He carries on performing his lecture and research duties at the University of Cologne as before.

Apart from his extensive experience in ophthalmological surgery at the University of Cologne, he additionally acquires surgical qualifications in well-known clinics in Germany, England and the USA. Prof. Dr. Jacobi has performed several 10,000 intraocular surgical treatments up until today in all his different functioning sites, thus proving his great clinical routine and surgical experience.

During this time he also developed new surgery procedures or improved already existent techniques among other things. Many young physicians have learned to operate under his guidance. His surgical area of expertise is the minimal-invasive cataract surgery. He introduced numerous new treatment methods and surgical instruments into cataract surgery. This resulted in a completely new “mild” surgical technique for cataract treatment. Prof. Jacobi predominantly treats his patients on an ambulatory basis with drip anaesthesia, which patients conceive as a pain- and fear-free method.
